The University of Washington is the stronger undergraduate choice for biology for most students, especially if you want early access to a large U.S. research ecosystem and a clearer path into American grad programs and science careers. UW has a major academic medical center, extensive life sciences research across campus, and strong connections to biotech and public health in Seattle. For an undergrad, that usually translates into more lab variety, more chances to work across biology subfields, and easier alignment with U.S. graduate admissions expectations.

Research access is the biggest separator. At UW, biology students can tap into labs tied to genomics, neuroscience, ecology, marine biology, global health, and medicine, often within one university system that includes the medical school and affiliated research institutes.
