Ohio State or Purdue: which offers better value for a student interested in engineering?

Purdue usually has the stronger value proposition for engineering. Its engineering college has a particularly strong national reputation, the program is one of the university’s signature strengths, and employers recruit heavily there across multiple engineering fields. For a student focused specifically on engineering, that often makes the price feel more directly tied to the opportunities you’re paying for.

One concrete differentiator is program concentration. At Purdue, engineering is a central identity of the school, which often translates into deep course offerings, large-scale recruiting, strong lab and project infrastructure, and a very established pipeline into engineering internships and jobs. Ohio State has solid engineering and the advantages of a large flagship university, but Purdue is more often the place students pick when they want the school’s clearest standout strength to be engineering itself.

If your net cost ends up similar at both schools, Purdue usually comes out ahead on engineering-focused value. If Ohio State gives you significantly more aid or in-state pricing while Purdue would be much more expensive, that can absolutely flip the answer.
