Is Ohio State a better value for money than Indiana for undergrad?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that Ohio State often carries broader national name recognition across more fields, while Indiana can be especially compelling if its price comes in lower for you or if you are targeting one of its standout programs, especially business and music. For undergrad value, that means the answer usually comes down less to sticker price alone and more to your major, your aid, and whether you would actually benefit from Ohio State’s larger reach in certain industries and alumni circles. In most side by side comparisons, a small price difference tends to favor Ohio State, while a meaningful lower net cost can make Indiana the better buy.

Ohio State has a very strong overall reputation for a flagship public university, a huge alumni network, and solid outcomes across a wide range of majors. Its scale can translate into lots of research, internships, student organizations, and employer visibility, which matters if you are undecided or want flexibility. A degree from Ohio State is widely recognized nationally, and that broad recognition is part of why many students see it as a strong value.

Indiana is also well respected, but its value case is often more program specific. Kelley School of Business is a major example, since it has especially strong employer recognition and recruiting. Indiana also has excellent music and several other strong departments, so for the right student it can absolutely match or beat Ohio State on value, especially if the cost is lower.

For overall price, compare net cost rather than published tuition. If you are in state for one school, that school usually has the clearer value edge unless the other offers unusually strong merit aid. If both would cost about the same, I would lean Ohio State for undergrad because its overall brand and breadth give you a little more return across a wider set of majors. If Indiana is noticeably cheaper or you are entering a marquee Indiana program like Kelley, Indiana can be the smarter value.
