Michigan or Caltech for computer engineering: which is the better choice?
I’m trying to decide between Michigan and Caltech for computer engineering, and both seem strong in different ways. I’m mostly interested in the overall fit for an undergrad CE student, including academics, hands-on opportunities, and how well the program prepares you for internships or grad school.
I know they have very different sizes and campus cultures, so I’m trying to figure out which one is generally the better choice for this major.

The biggest practical tradeoff is breadth and scale at Michigan versus intensity and intimacy at Caltech. For computer engineering specifically, Michigan gives you a large, very established engineering ecosystem with many CE courses, labs, project teams, and recruiter pipelines.
