For weather and day-to-day campus atmosphere, the University of Washington is usually the easier place to live if you dislike harsh winters, while UIUC has the more classic Big Ten college-town feel. UW sits in Seattle with mild temperatures, lots of gray skies, and frequent light rain, but it avoids the long stretches of deep cold and wind that Champaign-Urbana gets.
