Which is more selective for admissions, UMass Amherst or Purdue?

Purdue is usually the more selective school overall, especially for students applying to high-demand programs like engineering, computer science, business, or nursing. UMass Amherst is still a well-regarded and competitive public university, but in broad admissions terms it is typically a bit more accessible than Purdue. The biggest caveat is that selectivity at both schools depends a lot on major, and that matters even more at Purdue.

For a student aiming at STEM-heavy or career-focused majors, Purdue tends to feel tougher because many of its most sought-after programs fill quickly and review applicants in a more competitive pool.
