Is the University of Wisconsin or NYU better for internship opportunities?

The biggest practical tradeoff is location versus campus structure: NYU puts you in the middle of New York City, where internships can be part-time and ongoing during the semester, while the University of Wisconsin gives you a more traditional campus experience but usually with fewer major-industry internships within immediate walking or subway distance. If your priority is building experience while classes are in session, NYU usually makes that easier simply because employers in finance, media, tech, fashion, nonprofits, and arts are nearby. Wisconsin still offers strong career support and solid recruiting, but many students rely more heavily on summer internships or need to be more intentional about traveling or relocating for them.

NYU has a real advantage in convenience and volume. Being in Manhattan means students can often intern during fall or spring, attend employer events regularly, and build professional networks without leaving the city. That matters because repeated exposure often leads to stronger connections, not just one summer experience.

Wisconsin is not weak on internships, especially in business, engineering, tech, research, and some public sector paths. Madison has good opportunities, and the university’s alumni network is large and loyal. But for many industries, especially those concentrated in major coastal cities, the path is less built into daily student life than it is at NYU.

Another factor is competition and access. At NYU, there are many opportunities, but you are also surrounded by ambitious students from multiple universities all chasing them. At Wisconsin, there may be fewer nearby headline internships, but campus recruiting can sometimes feel more centralized and manageable within the university community.

If the question is strictly internship access during college, NYU has the edge. Wisconsin can absolutely lead to excellent outcomes, but NYU tends to make internships easier to reach, easier to combine with classes, and easier to turn into ongoing career connections while you are still an undergraduate.
