Is the University of Washington or Rice University generally considered more prestigious?

Rice University is generally viewed as more prestigious overall. It has a stronger national reputation as a highly selective private university, is especially well regarded for undergraduate education, and tends to carry more weight in broad conversations about elite U.S. schools. The University of Washington is also an excellent university, but its prestige is more uneven: very high in certain fields and especially strong on the West Coast, yet not usually placed in the same overall category.

One major difference is the type of institutional reputation each school has built. Rice is a smaller private research university with a distinct identity, close faculty access, and a long-standing reputation for academic rigor across disciplines.
