For academics, is the University of Washington or UChicago considered stronger overall?

UChicago is considered stronger overall academically. It has a more uniformly elite academic reputation across disciplines, is especially well known for intense undergraduate academics, and is usually viewed as operating at a higher level of selectivity and scholarly prestige than the University of Washington.

One major difference is undergraduate academic culture. UChicago is known for a rigorous core curriculum and for making intellectual intensity a central part of the student experience, not just something found in a few departments. That gives it a reputation for unusually strong academics across the board, especially in the humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and theoretical fields.
