Is Florida or Michigan State better for finance careers after college?
I’m trying to decide between the University of Florida and Michigan State for undergrad, and I’m most interested in going into finance after graduation. I know both schools are solid, but I’m wondering which one tends to give students a better path into finance careers.
I’m mostly thinking about the strength of the alumni network, recruiting opportunities, and how each school is viewed by employers in finance.

For finance, the University of Florida usually has the stronger overall pull, especially if you want access to employers in Florida, the Southeast, or larger national pipelines through a well-known business program. UF’s Warrington College of Business has a strong reputation, a very active alumni base, and solid placement into areas like corporate finance, banking, asset management, and accounting-adjacent finance roles.
UF makes the most sense for a student who wants a high-energy campus, broad name recognition, and a finance path that can connect well to big-state employer networks. I would especially lean UF if you think you may want to work in Florida after college, since its alumni presence there is hard to ignore.
Michigan State is a very real contender for a student who values a huge alumni network in the Midwest and wants a campus with strong school spirit and deep employer ties in that region. The Broad College of Business is respected, and MSU has a long history of producing graduates who do well in corporate roles, including finance. It can be especially attractive if you see yourself in Chicago, Detroit, or other Midwest markets, where the Spartan network is substantial and often very loyal.
MSU can also be a smart pick for someone who prefers a slightly more regional but still powerful recruiting base, especially for corporate finance and related business roles. In practice, both schools can get you to finance, but the path may look different. UF often feels a bit more nationally portable in finance conversations, while MSU’s edge is the strength and responsiveness of its network in the Midwest.
If your goal is the broadest finance brand and stronger pull in the Southeast, Florida has the advantage. If you want to build a career in the Midwest and value a massive alumni community that often helps its own, Michigan State has a compelling case.
