That makes it easier to find peers preparing for the same path and to plug into a well-developed pipeline early.

Another differentiator is proximity to major consulting offices and employer relationships. Penn benefits from strong ties to New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington, all major hubs for consulting. Berkeley absolutely places students into consulting too, especially in San Francisco and other West Coast offices, but the path can feel a bit less centralized and more competitive because of the school’s size.

Berkeley’s strength is that it gives you outstanding academics, a huge alumni base, and excellent access to business, tech, and analytics-oriented opportunities. If your interests might shift toward tech strategy, product, startups, or data-heavy roles, Berkeley can be especially attractive. But for a student specifically prioritizing the clearest undergraduate runway into consulting, Penn is the more reliable platform.
