Is UC San Diego or Fordham better for business students?

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale and setting: UC San Diego gives you a large public research university with broad academic resources and strong connections to Southern California industries, while Fordham gives you a more directly business-centered environment in New York City, where internship access is built into the location. For a student focused specifically on business, Fordham often has the clearer undergraduate business identity because of the Gabelli School of Business. UC San Diego is a bigger-name public university overall, but business there is less central to the campus identity than it is at Fordham.

Fordham stands out if you want a traditional undergraduate business experience with a school that is known for finance, accounting, marketing, and internships tied closely to the NYC job market. Being in New York matters a lot for semester-time internships, networking events, and employer exposure, especially in finance, consulting, media, and corporate roles. The private-school structure can also mean more direct access to advising and a tighter business community.

UC San Diego is attractive if you want a larger campus, more flexibility, and access to a very strong university ecosystem with strengths in economics, data, technology, and entrepreneurship-adjacent fields. It can be especially appealing if your interests lean toward business plus analytics, tech, or innovation. The San Diego location offers opportunities too, but they are usually less concentrated and less immediate than what Fordham students can tap into during the school year in NYC.

If the question is which school is better specifically for business, I would lean Fordham. If the question is which school is stronger overall for a student who might blend business with tech, economics, or a broader research-university experience, UC San Diego becomes much more compelling.
