Which college is more fun: William & Mary or USC?

The biggest practical tradeoff is that USC offers a much bigger, louder, more outwardly social campus scene, while William & Mary tends to be smaller, more low-key, and more community-driven day to day. USC has major school-spirit energy tied to athletics, Los Angeles access, and a campus culture where there is almost always something happening. William & Mary’s social life is usually described as more intimate and student-centered, with a tighter residential feel and less of the big-event atmosphere.

If by “fun” you mean visible energy, lots of options on any given weekend, and a campus where sports, clubs, performances, and the city all feed into student life, USC will feel more fun to most students. The scale matters here: USC is larger, more active at night, and more connected to internships, concerts, food, and off-campus social life in LA. People who like being busy and having variety usually notice that right away.

William & Mary can absolutely be enjoyable, but the vibe is different. Students often like it because it feels close-knit, walkable, and genuinely engaged, not because it is nonstop exciting. Williamsburg is charming and the campus community can be warm and spirited, but the surrounding area is quieter, and the social scene is less likely to revolve around big-city opportunities or high-profile athletics.

So in a head-to-head on overall atmosphere, USC usually comes across as the more fun campus in the conventional sense. William & Mary appeals more to students who enjoy a thoughtful, grounded, somewhat nerdier social environment where the fun is real but less flashy.
