UT Austin vs Boston University for marketing: which is the better choice for undergrads?
I'm trying to decide between UT Austin and Boston University for marketing, and I keep going back and forth. I want a program that will actually help me build skills, get internships, and be prepared for a job after college.
I know both schools have strong names, but I’m not sure which one is the better fit specifically for marketing as an undergraduate.

UT Austin has the edge for undergraduate marketing. McCombs gives marketing majors a very established business-school structure, strong recruiting pipelines, and direct access to a huge in-state and national employer network. For pure undergrad business training, it is usually the more straightforward option if your goal is skill-building, internships, and job readiness.
One big differentiator is how marketing sits inside the school. At UT, marketing is housed in McCombs, one of the most recognized undergraduate business programs in the country, so you benefit from a deep menu of business coursework, student organizations, case competitions, and employer attention focused specifically on business students. That tends to make the path from intro classes to internships to full-time recruiting feel more built out.
The internship environment also favors UT in a practical way. Austin is a fast-growing business hub with strong connections to tech, consumer brands, startups, and major corporations, and McCombs students regularly tap into those networks during the school year. Boston University has excellent access to a major city too, but BU’s undergraduate business experience is often a bit more spread across a larger urban environment rather than centered around one flagship public-business pipeline in the way UT is.
Another difference is campus culture and undergraduate experience. UT offers the more classic, high-energy campus community, and that often translates into tighter business-school identity, more visible school spirit, and a broader built-in network among undergrads. BU is more urban and independent in feel, which some students love, but for a student specifically looking for a cohesive undergrad marketing experience with strong recruiting momentum, UT is usually more compelling.
Cost can matter here too. If you are in-state for UT, that makes the decision even easier because McCombs is hard to beat on value. BU can absolutely lead to great marketing outcomes, especially for students who want a city-based experience from day one, but UT Austin is the one I’d trust more for the overall undergraduate marketing package.
