Fordham is the better choice for a student who wants a truly urban college experience. Its Bronx campus sits inside New York City, with direct access to trains, neighborhoods, restaurants, internships, museums, and events as part of normal student life, while UMass Amherst is in a classic college-town setting in western Massachusetts.

The biggest day-to-day difference is how often the city becomes part of your routine. At Fordham, getting off campus can be spontaneous: students can take the Metro-North or subway, explore other boroughs, go to shows, or just spend an afternoon off campus without it feeling like a special trip. At UMass Amherst, off-campus life is more centered on Amherst, Northampton, and the Five College area, which can be lively and charming but does not feel like being embedded in a major city.
