Which is better for business, Cornell or Boston University?

I'm a high school senior trying to narrow down my college list and both Cornell and Boston University are on it. I'm interested in studying business, and I keep seeing both schools mentioned as strong options.

I'm trying to understand which one is generally considered the better choice for a business major.

The biggest practical tradeoff is specialized undergraduate business training at Boston University versus Cornell’s broader Ivy-brand ecosystem and hotel-business pathway. BU has Questrom, a dedicated undergraduate business school with a very visible presence in Boston’s corporate market. Cornell is extremely prestigious overall, but its most direct undergraduate business-related option is the Nolan School of Hotel Administration, plus economics and applied economics programs rather than a traditional standalone undergrad business school in the same way BU offers.

For a student who wants a classic undergraduate business experience with majors, concentrations, and a large peer group all centered on business from day one, BU is usually the more straightforward option.

Cornell can be the stronger name overall, and it opens a lot of doors, but for business specifically the answer depends on which Cornell program you actually mean. If you are excited by hospitality, real estate, service leadership, or a business education with a hotel lens, Cornell’s Nolan School is elite and often seen as one of the best in that niche. If you simply want a conventional undergrad business school structure, BU is easier to map and explain.

Another real difference is setting. BU puts you in the middle of Boston. Cornell offers a more residential campus in Ithaca with a very strong alumni network, but fewer same-week in-city internship options.

So if the question is business in the broad, standard undergraduate sense, Boston University usually has the edge because Questrom is the clearer and more direct business program. If the question includes overall institutional prestige or a strong interest in hotel administration, Cornell can absolutely be the more compelling choice.
