UC Berkeley vs Boston College for business: which is better for undergrad career opportunities?

I’m trying to decide between UC Berkeley and Boston College for business, and I’m mainly thinking about what each name can do for me after graduation.

I know they have very different settings and cultures, so I’m trying to understand which one tends to give students stronger career opportunities in business.

UC Berkeley has the edge for undergrad business career opportunities. Haas carries exceptional weight with employers, Berkeley’s location gives you direct access to Bay Area finance, consulting, startups, and tech, and the alumni network is especially deep in West Coast business circles.

One major differentiator is employer access by geography. Berkeley students are plugged into the Bay Area during the school year, which matters for internships, coffee chats, and part-time opportunities that can turn into full-time offers. That is especially valuable if you are interested in consulting, tech-focused business roles, product-adjacent paths, venture, or finance tied to the West Coast ecosystem.

Another is brand strength within business recruiting. Haas is one of the most recognized undergraduate business programs in the country, and the Berkeley name travels very well across industries. For certain high-demand paths, especially where employers know the difference between undergraduate business programs, Berkeley tends to open more doors simply because the program is so visible and respected.

A third difference is the shape of the alumni network. Boston College has a loyal and very responsive network, particularly in Boston, the Northeast, and in traditional finance and corporate roles. That can be a real advantage if you want to build a career in that region.

One important caveat is internal access to Haas. Not every Berkeley student is admitted directly to the undergraduate business program, so you should confirm your actual path into business there. If you are comparing Berkeley Haas to Boston College’s business school directly, Berkeley is the more powerful name for career upside.
