Which is better for internships: Georgetown or Fordham?

For internships overall, Georgetown usually gives students the stronger platform, especially if you are interested in politics, international affairs, policy, government, journalism, consulting, or finance with a D.C. angle. Its location in Washington, D.C. makes semester-time internships unusually accessible, and Georgetown’s alumni network is especially deep in federal agencies, nonprofits, think tanks, embassies, and Capitol Hill offices. The school also has a long-established culture of students interning during the academic year, not just in the summer.

Georgetown tends to fit the student who wants internships built into everyday college life. If you want to take the bus to the Hill, work at a think tank during the week, or combine classwork with policy or global affairs experience, Georgetown has a real advantage. That matters because internship access is not just about listings. It is about whether the surrounding city is full of employers that regularly hire undergrads from your school, and Georgetown is very strong on that front.

Fordham makes the most sense for the student who wants New York City access and is drawn to industries like media, business, communications, fashion, entertainment, finance, or nonprofit work in NYC. Being in New York absolutely creates a huge volume of opportunities, and Fordham students can benefit from that, especially at the Lincoln Center campus. The challenge is that New York is so large and competitive that access can feel less concentrated around one school’s network than Georgetown’s setup in D.C.

If your definition of internships is broad and you want the biggest city marketplace, Fordham is attractive. But if you want a school where the institutional network, employer pipelines, and academic-year internship culture are especially organized and visible, Georgetown has the edge.
