Pepperdine vs UC Berkeley for business careers: which is better for getting into business jobs after college?

The biggest practical tradeoff is scale versus access. UC Berkeley gives you a much larger employer pipeline, a stronger national brand in business-related recruiting, and direct proximity to major finance, consulting, and tech employers in the Bay Area. Pepperdine offers smaller classes, closer faculty contact, and a more personal campus environment, but its recruiting reach for high-demand business jobs is narrower.

For business careers specifically, Berkeley has a clear edge. Haas is one of the most recognized undergraduate business pathways in the country, and even students who start outside Haas often benefit from Berkeley’s alumni network, student organizations, and employer presence. Companies that recruit heavily for consulting, finance, product, and analytics roles are much more likely to have structured pipelines at Berkeley than at Pepperdine.

Pepperdine can still work well, especially for students who value mentorship, want a less intense environment, or are interested in business roles in Southern California where relationship-building matters. Graziadio and Seaver can provide solid preparation, and some students do very well there, but the path is often more self-driven. You may need to network more independently and be more proactive about finding internships than you would at Berkeley.

Even so, Berkeley students in economics, data science, and related majors still place well into business jobs because the school’s reputation and recruiting ecosystem are so strong.

If your main goal is maximizing internship access and full-time business recruiting opportunities, Berkeley is the better bet. Pepperdine becomes more compelling if you know you learn best in a smaller setting and are comfortable trading some recruiting power for a more personal college experience.
