Which is better for tech jobs: Pepperdine or the University of Washington?

UW’s computer science and engineering presence is deeply connected to Seattle-area employers, including major cloud, e-commerce, gaming, and startup companies, and its alumni network in tech is extensive. Its course offerings, research opportunities, student organizations, career fairs, and peer community also create more paths into technical work.

UW is particularly well suited to someone who wants an intensive, tech-centered environment and is prepared to be proactive in a large, competitive setting. Computer science-related opportunities can be highly sought after, so students need to build projects, pursue internships early, and use recruiting events strategically. For software roles, that effort is likely to be rewarded with far more employer visibility than at Pepperdine.

Pepperdine can make sense for a student who values a smaller, relationship-driven undergraduate experience, Malibu location, and a broader liberal-arts setting alongside technology. Its Seaver College offers computer science, and proximity to the greater Los Angeles area can support internships, particularly with smaller firms, entertainment-adjacent technology, entrepreneurship, or business-oriented roles. Faculty access may also feel more personal.

However, Pepperdine does not have UW’s scale of specialized tech recruiting, engineering depth, or established pipeline into mainstream software employers. Unless Pepperdine offers a major financial or personal-fit advantage, UW is the clearer choice for a career centered on software or technology.
