Is the University of Delaware or Fordham University better for journalism?

Its location in New York City is a major advantage for reporting experience, media internships, and access to working journalists, and Fordham’s communications and media programs are much more directly tied to a major media market than Delaware’s.

The biggest difference is internship access during the school year. At Fordham, especially from the Lincoln Center campus, students can realistically intern with newspapers, magazines, digital outlets, broadcast organizations, and nonprofit media while classes are in session. That kind of steady, semester-by-semester exposure matters a lot in journalism because clips, newsroom experience, and professional contacts often shape early career opportunities more than the major title alone.

Fordham also benefits from being embedded in a city where stories are happening constantly. For student journalists, that means more opportunities to cover politics, culture, business, immigration, criminal justice, and local communities in a place with unusually high news density. Even student media can feel more connected to the professional world when alumni, guest speakers, and editors are nearby.

Delaware can still be a solid choice, especially if you want a more traditional campus environment and potentially a broader college-town experience. It offers writing and media opportunities, but it does not have the same built-in proximity to national media organizations or the same immediate access to internships during the academic year.
