Is Georgetown or Boston University better for internships?

I'm trying to decide between Georgetown and Boston University, and internship opportunities are a big factor for me. I want to know which school tends to give undergrads better access to internships and professional connections.

I'm especially interested in how much the school’s location, alumni network, and career support can affect internship chances.

The biggest practical tradeoff is Georgetown’s access to a smaller, highly connected network in Washington versus Boston University’s access to a larger city economy with internships spread across more industries. Georgetown has a major location advantage for politics, policy, government, international affairs, and many nonprofits because students can intern during the semester in D.C. BU also benefits from an excellent city location, but its internship opportunities are more decentralized across Boston’s broad mix of healthcare, business, tech, media, and research institutions.

For undergraduate internship access, Georgetown often has the sharper edge if your interests line up with D.C.-based fields. Its alumni network is especially influential in government, law, consulting, and public service, and the school’s reputation in those spaces tends to translate into strong professional connections. The semester-time internship culture is a real advantage there because being close to Capitol Hill, think tanks, embassies, and major organizations makes it easier to build experience before summer.

Boston University is extremely strong for students who want volume and variety. Because BU is embedded in Boston, students can tap into hospitals, startups, finance firms, media organizations, biotech companies, and universities nearby.

On career support, both schools have solid resources, but Georgetown tends to be especially intentional about connecting academics to professional pathways, particularly in fields where networking matters a lot.

So if the question is pure internship leverage, Georgetown stands out more for relationship-driven access and semester internships, while BU stands out for breadth.
