Is Villanova or Northeastern better for co-op opportunities?

I’m trying to compare these two schools mainly for the co-op experience and how that affects getting real work experience before graduation. I know both schools are strong, but I’m having trouble figuring out which one is generally better if my main goal is internships and co-ops.

I’m a high school senior trying to make a practical choice, and I want to understand which school tends to be better for students who want more hands-on career experience.

For co-op opportunities specifically, Northeastern is the clearer choice. Co-op is built into Northeastern’s identity in a way that it is not at Villanova, and students there typically have a much more structured path to extended full-time work experiences before graduation. Northeastern also has a long-established employer network for co-ops across fields like business, engineering, health, computer science, and public policy.

Northeastern fits the student who wants career experience woven directly into college from the start. The school is known for alternating academic study with substantial work placements, and many students graduate with multiple semesters of full-time professional experience rather than just a summer internship or two. That matters if your top priority is testing out roles, building a resume early, and making employer connections while still in school.

Villanova makes more sense for the student who wants strong career support and internship access, but not necessarily a co-op-centered model. Villanova students do get internships, and the school has a solid alumni network, especially in business and some East Coast professional circles. But the experience is usually closer to a traditional college pathway, where internships happen alongside or between semesters, rather than through a signature co-op system.

If your question is narrowly about which school tends to provide more hands-on work experience before graduation, Northeastern has the edge by a noticeable margin. Villanova can absolutely lead to strong outcomes, especially for students who are proactive, but Northeastern is the one more intentionally designed around extended experiential learning.
