Is UVA or Northeastern better for business undergrad?

I'm trying to choose between UVA and Northeastern for business and keep seeing different opinions online. I want to understand which school is generally considered stronger for a business degree and overall career preparation.

I’m mainly looking at the undergraduate business experience, not grad school, and I’d like to know how the two compare in a way that could help with my college decision.

UVA is the stronger pick for undergraduate business. The McIntire School of Commerce has a much more established reputation in undergrad business, especially for finance, consulting, accounting, and other traditional business paths, and it is one of the most recognized undergraduate commerce programs in the country. Employers in those fields know McIntire well, and that reputation carries real weight in recruiting.

One major difference is the structure and academic experience. At UVA, business is centered in McIntire, which is specifically built around undergraduate commerce education and is known for a rigorous, cohort-based experience with strong academics and polished professional preparation. Northeastern’s D’Amore-McKim School is solid, but it does not carry the same level of national prestige for undergrad business as McIntire.

The biggest thing Northeastern has going for it is co-op. Its work-integrated model gives students more built-in full-time work experience before graduation, which can be excellent for exploring industries and building a resume early. That said, for students aiming at competitive business recruiting pipelines, UVA often has the clearer edge because of the strength of its alumni network, on-campus recruiting, and brand recognition in business-heavy fields.

The campus environment matters too. UVA offers a more traditional college experience with a very strong alumni culture and a business program that feels central to campus life. Northeastern is more urban and career-oriented from day one, which some students prefer, but in a head-to-head comparison focused specifically on undergrad business strength, UVA comes out ahead more often.
