Is Notre Dame or USC more fun for college life?

I’m trying to get a feel for the overall vibe at these two schools and which one students usually find more fun day to day. I know they’re both really different, so I’m mostly thinking about things like campus social life, weekend atmosphere, and whether the experience feels more energetic or more relaxed.

For day-to-day college life, USC usually feels more energetic and city-connected, while Notre Dame tends to feel more campus-centered and tradition-driven. USC students have Los Angeles around them, a big Greek presence, major school spirit, and a social scene that stretches beyond campus. Notre Dame is often described as having a tighter residential community, football-centered weekends, and a more all-in campus atmosphere where students spend a lot of time with each other on campus.

USC tends to suit the student who wants variety every weekend and likes the idea of college blending into a major city. There are campus parties, Greek life, concerts, restaurants, internships, and LA events all feeding into student life, so the social experience can feel fast-moving and flexible. That can be exciting, but it also means the social scene is a little more spread out and less everyone-in-the-same-place than at a traditional college town school.

Notre Dame fits the student who wants a strong built-in community and a weekend culture that revolves heavily around campus traditions. The residence hall system is a big part of social life, and many students talk about their dorm community as one of the best parts of the experience. Football weekends are a huge deal, and the school has a very recognizable shared culture, so the fun often comes from belonging to that collective atmosphere rather than constantly leaving campus to find something new.

If by fun you mean nonstop options, bigger nightlife access, and a more outward-facing social life, USC probably wins that comparison. If fun to you means close friendships, packed school-spirit weekends, and a strong sense that campus itself is the center of everything, Notre Dame often feels more satisfying. A lot comes down to whether you want your social life built around a city or around a highly connected campus community.
