Is the University of Maryland or Tulane University more fun for undergrads?

I’m trying to decide between these two schools and keep hearing that both have a strong social scene, but in different ways. I’m mostly wondering which one feels more fun overall for a typical student, not just on paper.

I want to get a sense of the everyday vibe, like how social people are, whether there’s usually stuff going on, and what the weekend atmosphere is like.

Both can be very fun, but they feel fun in different ways. Maryland tends to offer a bigger, more traditional college social scene with lots of student activity, sports energy, and a campus where there is usually something happening. Tulane feels more embedded in the city itself, with a social life shaped by New Orleans, off-campus plans, and a more distinct party and cultural atmosphere.

Maryland often clicks for the student who wants an active campus-centered weekend. College Park has plenty of student organizations, bars and restaurants nearby, and game days that create a shared social rhythm. Even students who are not heavily involved in Greek life can find things to do because the university is large, the student body is very active, and there is a constant flow of events, performances, club meetings, and sports-related energy.

Tulane suits the student who wants social life to spill beyond campus. A lot of the fun comes from being in New Orleans, which gives weekends a very different feel from a typical college town. There are campus events and a real school community, but the city is a major part of the appeal, and students who enjoy live music, food, festivals, and a more free-form social scene often find Tulane especially exciting.

For a typical undergrad, Maryland may feel more consistently social day to day because the university itself generates so much activity. If your idea of fun is a classic busy campus with lots of people around and easy built-in energy, Maryland has an edge. If fun means a more unique city experience and weekends that do not feel confined to campus, Tulane stands out.
