Which has better school spirit, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign or Texas A&M?
I’m trying to decide between these two schools and one thing I care about a lot is the overall school spirit. I mean things like students showing up to games, traditions, campus energy, and how connected people seem to their school.
From a student perspective, which one feels more spirited day to day?

Texas A&M has the stronger day-to-day school spirit. It is one of the most tradition-heavy campuses in the country, and those traditions are not limited to football Saturdays. The Aggie identity tends to shape everyday campus life more visibly, with students participating in rituals, using shared language, and showing a very strong loyalty to the school.
A big differentiator is how embedded traditions are at Texas A&M. Things like the Aggie Ring, Midnight Yell, Muster, the Corps presence, and constant references to Aggie culture create a feeling that students are part of a distinct community. At Illinois, there is definitely pride, especially around athletics and campus involvement, but it usually feels less all-encompassing and less central to daily student identity.
Game-day energy also leans toward Texas A&M. Attendance, crowd intensity, and the social importance of football are on another level, and that spills into the broader campus atmosphere. Illinois has plenty of fans and a real Big Ten environment, especially when teams are doing well, but the sports culture is not usually as dominant or as defining of student life.
The everyday social vibe is another difference. At A&M, students often seem more uniformly connected to the institution itself, while UIUC can feel a bit more diffuse because of its size, academic intensity, and broader mix of subcommunities. Illinois absolutely has spirit, but from a student perspective, Texas A&M is more likely to feel spirited not just at events, but on a normal weekday too.
