UC Irvine vs Fordham for finance careers: which is better for recruiting and internships?

I’m trying to decide between UC Irvine and Fordham and I want to go into finance after college. Both schools seem solid, but I’m not sure which one has the stronger reputation for getting students into finance internships and full-time jobs.

I’m mostly interested in which school gives a better path into the industry and more recruiting opportunities.

For finance careers, Fordham usually gives you the more direct recruiting and internship path, mainly because of its New York location and the way students can plug into the city during the school year. Being in the Bronx with easy access to Manhattan matters a lot for finance, since internships, networking events, and informational interviews are concentrated there.

Fordham tends to fit the student who wants finance to be part of college life from the beginning, not just something pursued in summers. During the semester, it is much easier to intern part time, attend employer events, and build connections with alumni and firms in banking, asset management, corporate finance, and related fields. For someone aiming at Wall Street adjacent recruiting pipelines, that proximity is a real advantage.

UC Irvine makes more sense for a student who wants to build a finance career on the West Coast, especially in Southern California, or who may be interested in finance roles outside the classic New York track. Irvine has a strong overall UC brand, good business-related academics through the Paul Merage School of Business, and access to the Orange County, LA, and broader California economy. You can absolutely get internships and full-time roles from UCI, but the path is usually less concentrated around one dense financial hub than Fordham’s.

If your main question is about pure recruiting access and internship convenience while you are still in school, Fordham has the edge. If you are more interested in staying in California, exploring finance in a broader business environment, or keeping options open across industries and regions, UC Irvine can still work very well.
