Is Binghamton or Drexel better for co-op opportunities?

I'm trying to decide between Binghamton and Drexel and keep hearing that Drexel is known for co-op, while Binghamton also has good career support. I’m mainly trying to figure out which school would give me a stronger co-op experience and better chances to gain real work experience before graduating.

Drexel is the clearer choice if co-op is a major priority. Its co-op system is built into the undergraduate experience, with structured full-time work terms, a large employer network, and many students graduating with substantial professional experience already on their resumes. Binghamton has solid internships, recruiting, and career support, but it is not centered around co-op in the same way.

Drexel fits students who want work experience to be a core part of college, not just something they pursue on the side. The university is especially known for integrating paid co-ops into academic planning, and that can make it easier to build experience in a deliberate sequence rather than scrambling for summer internships each year.

Binghamton makes more sense for students who want a more traditional college path with flexibility to pursue internships, research, and campus involvement without the calendar being shaped around co-op cycles. You can absolutely get strong pre-professional experience there, especially if you are proactive, but you will usually need to drive that process more yourself. The school has a strong reputation in New York state and good outcomes in several fields, yet the experience is less intentionally built around repeated long-form work placements.

Another practical difference is timing and lifestyle. Drexel’s co-op model often means a different academic calendar and, for some students, a longer path or at least a less conventional rhythm to college. That tradeoff is worth it for students who want extensive work experience before graduating. Binghamton may feel simpler and more traditional, which some students prefer, especially if they are unsure they want multiple full-time work terms.

If your question is specifically which school offers the stronger co-op experience, Drexel has the edge by a wide margin. If your question is which school offers decent career preparation overall, both can do that, but Binghamton’s strength is not co-op in the same dedicated, built-in way.
