Binghamton vs Syracuse for internships: which school is better for internship opportunities?

I’m trying to decide between Binghamton and Syracuse and internship access is a big factor for me. I want a school where it’s realistic to find solid internships during the school year or over the summer, especially for building experience early.

I’m not asking about rankings overall, just which one tends to give students better internship opportunities and support.

The biggest practical tradeoff is this: Syracuse usually offers the more structured, employer-connected internship ecosystem, while Binghamton often gives you a lower-cost path with solid outcomes but more pressure to be self-directed. Syracuse has a long-established career services culture, strong alumni presence in media, communications, business, and policy, and a location that supports local in-semester opportunities. Binghamton absolutely places students into good internships too, but the process can feel more dependent on your own initiative, major, and willingness to search beyond the immediate area.

For internship support specifically, Syracuse tends to stand out. Its schools and programs often have tighter ties to industry, and the university puts noticeable emphasis on career advising, employer events, and experiential learning. That matters if you want help early, especially in fields like communications, public affairs, sports, marketing, TV/film, and some business areas where Syracuse’s network is especially visible.

Binghamton is strong for students in STEM, business, and some professional tracks, and many students land worthwhile summer internships in New York City, Long Island, or elsewhere. But Binghamton’s local market is smaller, so during-the-school-year internships can be less abundant depending on your field. In practice, that can mean more remote internships, more summer-focused planning, or more travel if you want experience during the semester.

If your priority is the easiest access to internships plus stronger built-in support, Syracuse has the edge. If cost matters a lot and you are comfortable being proactive, Binghamton can still get you to strong internships, but Syracuse is usually the more internship-friendly environment out of the two.
