Binghamton vs University of Vermont for campus vibe: which one feels more social and school-spirit focused?

I'm trying to get a better sense of the day-to-day atmosphere at these two schools. On paper they both seem like solid public universities, but I keep hearing different things about the social scene and overall energy.

I'm looking for a place that feels active, has a real campus community, and makes it easy to find people who are into school spirit and hanging out together.

For campus vibe, University of Vermont usually feels more openly spirited and visibly communal day to day, while Binghamton often comes across as social in a more student-network, friend-group, and weekend-driven way. UVM has a classic college-town setting in Burlington, a stronger outdoorsy identity, and a campus culture where school pride is easier to notice in everyday life. Binghamton has plenty happening, but the energy is often described as more practical and less centered on a big rah-rah campus atmosphere.

UVM tends to fit students who want the environment itself to feel lively and connective. Burlington matters a lot here: students spend time both on campus and in town, and the mix of athletics, clubs, outdoor recreation, and a very recognizable school identity gives the place a cohesive feel. If you like the idea of people showing pride through hockey, campus traditions, being outside, and a more expressive student culture, UVM usually delivers that better.

Binghamton fits students who want a busy social life but do not need it to look like constant visible school spirit. The student body is active, there are lots of organizations, and people definitely find their circles, but the vibe is often more centered on academics plus socializing within established groups, residence communities, or off-campus plans. It can feel energetic, just not always in the same all-campus, wear-the-school-colors kind of way.

For someone specifically prioritizing an active campus community with easy access to school spirit and group hangouts, UVM is more likely to match what you are describing. Binghamton can still be very social, especially once you find your people, but UVM more often feels like the campus itself is helping create that sense of togetherness.
