Fordham has the edge for business internships, mainly because of its New York City location and the way that proximity translates into easier access to in-semester internships, networking events, and employer touchpoints. Being in the Bronx with direct access to Manhattan matters a lot for finance, marketing, consulting, media, and corporate roles, since students can realistically interview and intern during the school year. Fordham’s business students benefit from a city-based alumni network and frequent employer exposure that is hard to replicate from a more traditional college-town setting.

Location is the biggest differentiator. At Fordham, students can commute to internships during the semester, attend industry panels in the city, and build professional experience before summer recruiting even starts. That kind of repetition, meeting people, doing part-time internships, turning one contact into another, is especially valuable in business fields where momentum and networking often drive opportunities.

Penn State still offers a very real internship pipeline, especially through the Smeal College of Business and its large alumni base. It has strong career services, recognizable school spirit, and a broad employer network, so students do land solid internships at major companies. But many of those opportunities are more dependent on formal recruiting cycles, career fairs, and summer internships rather than the week-to-week access that comes from being near a major business hub.

For pure internship access during college, Fordham is usually the more convenient and immediate path. Penn State can absolutely produce strong outcomes too, but it often requires more intentional travel, timing, and planning to match the kind of semester-long internship exposure Fordham students can get more naturally.
