Is Boston College or Tufts more fun for undergrads?

I’m trying to compare the student experience at Boston College and Tufts, especially the social scene and overall campus vibe. I’m a high school senior and both schools seem strong academically, so I’m mostly trying to figure out which one feels more fun and lively day to day.

I know “fun” is subjective, but I’m looking for the general atmosphere students tend to have at each school.

If by “more fun” you mean a bigger traditional campus social scene, Boston College usually feels more lively for the average undergrad. BC has strong school spirit, major Division I sports, a more unified residential campus in Chestnut Hill, and a noticeable weekend social culture tied to clubs, friend groups, and campus events. Tufts is fun too, but in a different way: it tends to feel more quirky, intellectually playful, and less centered on big-school energy.

Boston College’s social life is shaped by the fact that most students live on or very near campus, and the campus itself feels contained and community-oriented. Football games, hockey, and other athletic events matter more there than they do at Tufts, so there’s a stronger sense of shared campus excitement. BC can feel more traditionally collegiate, with a clear campus identity and a student body that often participates in the same social rhythms.

Tufts has a more eclectic vibe and often attracts students who like a mix of academic intensity, humor, activism, and access to the Boston area. Its social scene is less about rah-rah school spirit and more about smaller communities, campus traditions, performances, themed events, and going into nearby Somerville, Cambridge, and Boston. Because Tufts is more decentralized and less sports-driven, some students find it more interesting and flexible, while others see it as less energetic in the classic college sense.

So the short version is this: BC is usually seen as more traditionally fun and spirited, while Tufts is more offbeat and community-by-community. If you want game-day energy, a stronger campus-centered weekend scene, and a more cohesive social atmosphere, BC likely wins. If your version of fun is a creative, slightly nerdier, more independent culture with easy city access, Tufts may feel like the better fit.
