Can you switch majors after being admitted to UConn?
I’m applying to UConn and I’m trying to understand how flexible the school is if I change my mind later. I know my interests might shift once I start taking classes, so I want to know whether students can switch to a different major after being admitted.
I’m mainly asking because I don’t want to base my whole application on one major if there is a realistic way to change it later.

Yes, you generally can switch majors after being admitted to UConn, but how easy it is depends on the school or program you want to move into. UConn students can change majors through the university’s change-of-major process, and many majors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are fairly flexible. More selective or capacity-limited programs, especially in areas like Nursing, Engineering, Business, and some allied health fields, usually have extra requirements and are not guaranteed.
At UConn, being admitted to the university does not always mean you can freely move into any program later. Some majors require specific prerequisite courses, minimum GPA thresholds, or an internal application after enrollment. That means switching from one major to another is much more realistic in some parts of the university than others.
For application strategy, it usually makes sense to apply to the major you are most genuinely interested in now, especially if it is a competitive school at UConn. If you apply to a less selective major assuming you will just switch later into something like Nursing or the School of Business, that can be risky because internal transfer spaces may be limited.
So the short version is: yes, UConn allows major changes, but not all switches are equally easy. If your interests are still broad, choosing a reasonably related major with some overlap in first-year coursework can give you flexibility while keeping options open.
