What does each UChicago applicant portal status mean?
I checked my UChicago applicant portal and saw a status update, but I’m not sure how to interpret it. I’m trying to figure out what the different portal statuses generally mean during the admissions process.
I’m a current high school senior and I want to understand whether a status change usually means anything specific about my application.

UChicago portal statuses usually reflect where your application is in the process, not an unofficial admission decision. The most common ones are Application Submitted or Received, where the university has your application; Application Checklist or Awaiting Materials, where required items like transcripts, recommendations, or test scores may still be processing; and Under Review, which means the admissions committee is actively evaluating your file. A status update in the portal often just means a document was added, marked complete, or your application moved to the next review stage.
If you see Complete, that generally means UChicago has all required materials and your file is ready for review or already in review. Under Review is the main status that tells you your application is being read, but it does not indicate whether you are leaning toward admission, deferral, or denial.
A Decision Available or Status Update message is the one that usually matters most. At UChicago, that typically means your actual admissions decision has been posted in the portal, and you need to click through to read it.
Sometimes portals also show temporary messages related to missing financial aid forms, midyear reports, or optional materials. Those updates usually affect completeness, not the admissions outcome itself.
