How does the UChicago applicant portal work for checking application status and submitted materials?
I just applied to UChicago and want to make sure I’m using the applicant portal correctly. I can see a login page and a status area, but I’m not totally sure what each section is supposed to show.
I mainly want to understand how applicants usually check whether documents and recommendations have been received.

UChicago’s applicant portal is mainly where you confirm that your application was received and track whether required materials have arrived. After you submit, you should get portal access by email, and the status page typically shows a checklist of items such as your application, transcript, school report, counselor recommendation, and teacher recommendations. It is normal for some materials to appear a few days after submission because documents sent through the Common App or by your school often take time to process.
The most important section is usually the application status checklist. That is where applicants look to see whether each required item is marked as received, complete, or still missing. If UChicago has everything it needs, your file will generally show as complete, though the exact wording can vary.
Recommendations and school documents do not always update instantly, so do not panic if your essays are in but your recommendations are not yet checked off. In practice, students often wait several business days. If a required document still has not appeared after a reasonable processing window, the right move is usually to confirm first with your counselor or teacher that it was actually submitted.
The portal may also be where UChicago posts admissions decisions, requests for missing information, and sometimes options related to financial aid or admitted-student steps later on.
