What research opportunities are available for undergraduate students at Tsinghua University?

Tsinghua undergraduates do have meaningful research access, and many students start before their final year. The most common paths are joining a professor’s lab, doing structured undergraduate research through your department, and working on innovation or capstone-style projects. At Tsinghua, research access tends to be strongest in engineering, computer science, physical sciences, and other STEM fields, where labs are a major part of the university’s academic culture.

In practice, students usually get involved by contacting faculty, applying through department programs, or being recommended after doing well in a course. Some students begin with lighter tasks such as literature reviews, coding, data cleaning, or assisting graduate students, then take on more independent work over time. It is generally easier to enter research once you have built strong grades in relevant coursework and formed relationships with instructors.
