How do University of Delaware students find internship opportunities during college?

I’m a high school junior thinking about colleges that have strong career support, and University of Delaware keeps coming up. I’m especially interested in how students actually find internships once they get there.

I want to understand whether UD has built-in internship resources or if students mostly have to search on their own.

University of Delaware students usually find internships through a mix of built-in campus resources and their own outreach, not by searching entirely on their own. UD has a centralized Career Center, the Handshake job and internship platform, career fairs, employer info sessions, and internship-related support embedded in many majors. For many students, especially in business, engineering, health, public policy, and the sciences, internship recruiting is a regular part of the school year.

A big part of the process is Handshake, where UD students can access internship listings and connect with employers recruiting on campus. The Career Center also helps with resumes, interview prep, networking strategy, and internship search appointments, which makes the process more structured than at schools where students are left to figure everything out themselves.

UD also hosts career fairs and industry-specific events that bring in regional and national employers. Its location helps too: students often pursue internships in Delaware, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and sometimes New York, depending on their field. That gives students access to finance, healthcare, government, research, education, and corporate opportunities within a reasonable distance.

Some colleges and departments have especially strong pipelines. Engineering and science students may find internships through faculty, research labs, and employer recruiting, while students in public policy, education, and health-related fields often use practicum or field-placement style opportunities as a bridge to internships.
