What should I expect in a University of Delaware admissions interview?

I’m applying to the University of Delaware and want to be prepared if I get an interview. I’m a junior/senior who has done a few school interviews before, but not one for college yet.

I’m mainly trying to understand what these interviews are usually like and how formal I should be.

For the University of Delaware, you generally should not expect a traditional admissions interview to be a major part of the application process. If you do have a conversation connected to UD, it is more likely to be informational, casual, or tied to a visit, special program, or alumni/student outreach rather than a formal make-or-break interview.

That means the right preparation is to be ready for a friendly conversation about your interests, why you are considering Delaware, and what you hope to study or do on campus. You should still present yourself professionally: business casual is usually a safe choice, whether the meeting is in person or virtual. You do not need to act stiff or overly rehearsed.

Expect basic questions like why UD interests you, what academic areas you are exploring, what activities matter most to you, and what you want in a college environment. For Delaware specifically, it helps to know a few concrete reasons the school fits you, such as a major, undergraduate research, honors opportunities, internships, study abroad, campus culture, or something specific you found through visiting or researching.

A good tone is polished but natural. Speak clearly, be ready with a short self-introduction, and have 2 to 4 thoughtful questions prepared. Questions about your intended major, first-year experience, campus life, or how students get involved tend to land well.

For virtual settings, test your camera and audio, use a quiet space, and keep your name professional on the screen. For in-person conversations, arrive a little early and bring a few questions rather than a resume unless they specifically ask for one.

The main thing to expect is low pressure. At UD, any interview-like interaction is usually more about showing interest and learning more about the university than passing a formal admissions test.
