What should I wear to a University of Hawaii interview for college admissions?

I have an interview coming up for University of Hawaii and I want to make a good impression without overdressing. I’m a high school senior, and I’m not sure what counts as appropriate for a college interview, especially since Hawaii has a more casual culture.

I’d like to know what outfit would seem polished and respectful while still looking natural and not too formal.

Aim for business casual: neat, polished, and a little more dressed up than what you’d wear to school, but not full suit-level formal. Hawaii’s campus culture tends to be more relaxed than many mainland schools. The safest choice is an outfit that looks respectful, clean, and comfortable in warm weather.

A good option is a collared shirt, blouse, sweater, or simple dress top with slacks, khakis, or a modest skirt or dress. Closed-toe flats, loafers, clean dress shoes, or other neat shoes work well. If you want, you can add a light blazer or cardigan, but it is not necessary if the rest of the outfit already looks put together.

Try to avoid anything too casual or distracting, like athletic wear, hoodies, ripped jeans, flip-flops, very short hemlines, or clothing with large logos. Since Hawaii is warm and humid, breathable fabrics are a smart choice, but the key is still looking intentional rather than beach-casual.

If the interview is virtual, dress the same from the waist up at minimum, and make sure your clothing contrasts well with the background and looks tidy on camera.
