How important are extracurricular activities for LSU admission?

I'm a junior trying to figure out where to focus my time before applying to LSU. My grades are decent, but I don't have a huge list of clubs or leadership roles.

I'm wondering how much LSU looks at extracurricular activities compared with GPA and test scores when making admission decisions.

For LSU, extracurriculars matter, but they are usually not the main driver of admission. GPA, the strength of your coursework, and if submitted, test scores tend to carry more weight in LSU admissions decisions than having a long activities list.

That means a shorter activity list will not automatically hurt you if your academic record is solid. LSU still wants to see that you used your time well outside class, but depth is generally more helpful than trying to pile on a lot of random clubs senior year. A steady commitment to a job, family responsibilities, one club, athletics, volunteering, church involvement, or a personal project can all reflect positively.

If your grades are decent, the best use of your time is usually to keep improving your GPA, take appropriately challenging classes, and make sure the rest of your application is clean and complete. For activities, focus on a few things you actually care about and can stick with. If you can add responsibility, such as organizing an event, training newer members, or taking on a small leadership role, that helps more than just joining several new groups.

So in LSU’s case, extracurriculars are important enough to round out your application, but not usually as important as academic factors. Think of them as supporting evidence of engagement and responsibility, not the main admission criterion.
