How should I write the activities section for the University of Hawaii application?

I’m filling out my college application and got to the activities section for the University of Hawaii. I have a mix of school clubs, a part-time job, and volunteering, but I’m not sure how detailed I should be or how to order everything.

I want to make sure I describe my activities in a clear way that fits what the application is looking for without wasting space.

For the University of Hawaii application, list your activities in order of importance to you and be specific about what you actually did. Include school clubs, work, volunteering, family responsibilities, athletics, arts, and leadership, because UH wants a full picture of how you spend your time, not just traditional campus involvement. The strongest entries use short, concrete descriptions with roles, responsibilities, time commitment, and impact.

Start with the activities that matter most or show the most commitment. Order matters because readers usually notice the top entries first, so do not automatically put clubs before work or service.

For each activity, use the space to answer four things as clearly as possible: what the activity is, what your role was, how often you participated, and what you contributed.

Do the same for your job. A part-time job can be one of the strongest entries on an application because it shows responsibility, time management, and reliability. If you help support your family or balance work with school, say that plainly if the application allows enough room.

Keep descriptions concise and factual rather than trying to sound impressive. Action verbs help: organized, trained, served, created, managed, led, tutored, assisted.

If you have limited space, prioritize depth over trying to make every activity sound equally important. A few well-described, meaningful activities usually read better than a long list of vague entries. Also include activities outside school if they take real time and commitment.
