How good is Adelphi University pre-med advising for students preparing for medical school?
I’m considering Adelphi and I’m trying to figure out how much support pre-med students actually get. I know being pre-med is mostly on the student, but I want to understand whether the advising there helps with course planning, MCAT prep, and getting ready for med school applications.
I’m a high school senior looking at colleges where I’d feel supported if I decide to go into medicine.

Adelphi can be a solid option for pre-med advising, especially if you want a smaller private university where advising is fairly accessible. Students there can work with both their academic advisor and health professions advising support, and Adelphi does have a pre-health structure aimed at students preparing for medical, dental, and other health professional schools. The biggest advantage is usually the more personal scale of the school, which can make it easier to get individual attention than at a very large university.
For course planning, Adelphi does offer guidance on completing common medical school prerequisites such as biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, math, and related coursework. That matters because one of the most useful parts of pre-med advising is making sure your major requirements and pre-med requirements stay aligned so you do not end up scrambling late. At a school like Adelphi, that planning support is typically one of the stronger parts of the advising experience.
For MCAT prep and applications, the advising is helpful but it is unlikely to do all the heavy lifting for you. Expect support with timing, recommendation planning, and general application strategy, but not a substitute for your own strong academics, clinical experience, research, and exam preparation. In other words, the advising can keep you organized and informed, but your outcomes will still depend a lot on how proactively you use the resources.
One practical thing to check is how often pre-health students actually meet with advisors, and what recent medical school placement looks like. I would also look for information on nearby hospital or clinical opportunities, since Adelphi’s Long Island location can help with access to healthcare settings.
