How do you write a strong Texas Tech scholarship appeal letter?

I got my scholarship decision from Texas Tech and I’m trying to figure out how to appeal it in the most effective way. I’m not sure what kind of explanation or supporting details actually help in an appeal letter.

I want to make sure I focus on the right things and present my situation clearly without making the letter too long or too emotional.

A strong Texas Tech scholarship appeal letter should be short, factual, and centered on new or clarified information that could reasonably affect the decision. The most persuasive appeals usually explain a significant change in financial circumstances, correct missing or inaccurate information, or add a meaningful academic update such as improved grades, new awards, or rank changes. A good target is about one page, with a respectful tone and specific documentation to back up every important claim.

Start by clearly stating what award you are appealing, your full name, student ID or application ID, and the exact reason for the appeal. In the first paragraph, say directly that you are requesting reconsideration of your scholarship decision and give the strongest reason in one or two sentences. Do not spend half the letter expressing disappointment. The review is more likely to focus on concrete facts than emotion.

The middle of the letter should explain only the most relevant details. If this is a financial appeal, describe what changed, such as job loss, reduced income, major medical expenses, divorce, death of a parent, or another documented hardship. If this is a merit-based appeal, include updated academic information like a higher GPA, stronger senior grades, new test scores if applicable, or a major honor received after you applied.

Attach supporting documents whenever possible, such as a termination letter, medical bills, tax information, updated transcript, or award notification. Keep the tone respectful and professional, and avoid language that sounds demanding or compares Texas Tech’s offer to another school unless the appeal instructions specifically invite that information.

A simple structure works best: request, reason, evidence, and brief closing. End by thanking the committee for reconsidering your file and stating that Texas Tech remains a top choice if that is true.
