How should a robotics applicant approach the MIT application essays?

I’m a high school junior who has spent a lot of time on robotics, including competitions and team projects. MIT feels like a school where that background could matter a lot, but I’m not sure how to write about it without sounding like I’m just listing achievements.

For MIT, the best approach is to use robotics as evidence of how you think, build, and work with others, not as a trophy list. What tends to work best for MIT is an applicant who sounds genuinely excited by making things and equally engaged by people. Robotics can absolutely strengthen your application, but only if the essays make you sound like a thoughtful human being who happens to love robotics, not just a robotics resume in paragraph form.
