What should I do after being deferred by the University of Vermont?

I just got deferred from the University of Vermont, and I’m trying to understand what I should do next. I’m a senior, and UVM is still one of my top choices.

I know a deferral is not a rejection, but I’m not sure what steps I should take to stay a strong candidate and show continued interest.

After a deferral from the University of Vermont, the best next step is to stay engaged without overwhelming the admissions office. Submit a strong Letter of Continued Interest if UVM allows updates, and use it to reaffirm that UVM is still a top choice, mention any meaningful new grades, awards, leadership roles, or accomplishments since you applied, and briefly explain why UVM is a strong fit for you.

If you have a major improvement to report, send it. That could be first-semester senior grades, a stronger midyear report, a new varsity captain role, a published project, or a significant community contribution. Keep the update concise and specific, and avoid repeating your whole application.

Also make sure your portal is complete and check whether UVM has any stated deferral instructions or deadlines. If the school offers an optional update form or a way to submit new materials, use that instead of sending multiple emails. One thoughtful update is usually better than a stream of follow-ups.
