Can I major in public health as an undergraduate at Tulane?

I’m interested in studying public health in college, and Tulane keeps coming up because of its school of public health. I’m a junior trying to figure out whether that means there’s actually an undergraduate public health major, or if the school is mainly for graduate students.

I want to understand how Tulane structures that area before I decide how seriously to look at it.

Yes. Tulane does offer undergraduate study in public health, and the main option is a Bachelor of Science in Public Health through the Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Tulane is unusual in having a well-established public health school that is open to undergraduates, not just graduate students, and public health is one of the university’s signature academic areas.

As an undergrad, you can major in public health and take coursework in areas like epidemiology, environmental health, health policy, and global or community health. Tulane also has a strong service-learning culture, which fits well with public health because many students connect classroom work to New Orleans community issues and health equity work.

If you are looking at Tulane specifically because of its public health reputation, that makes sense. The university’s public health school is not only for master’s and doctoral students, even though it is nationally known at the graduate level too. Undergraduates can study in that school directly rather than just piecing together related classes from biology, sociology, or policy.
