Does Tulane University give good financial aid to students who need it?

I’m trying to figure out whether Tulane is realistically affordable for my family before I spend too much time getting attached to it.

I know some colleges look generous at first but still leave big gaps, so I’m mainly wondering how good Tulane’s need-based financial aid usually is for students who need a lot of help.

Tulane can be affordable for some students with high financial need, but it is not usually considered one of the most generous schools for need-based aid. Tulane says it meets 100% of demonstrated financial need, but that is based on the school’s own calculation, not necessarily what your family feels it can pay. In practice, some students still see sizable expected family contributions or loan/work expectations, so affordability can vary a lot.

Tulane also offers significant merit scholarships, and for some families those awards are what make the school workable.

If your family needs a lot of help, the smartest next step is to run Tulane’s net price calculator before getting too invested. Pay attention not just to the total grant amount, but also whether the package includes loans and work-study and what the remaining parent contribution looks like.
