Which is better for starting an entertainment career: UIUC or USC?

USC offers the more direct launchpad for film, television, and music careers because its Los Angeles location puts students close to major studios, networks, labels, agencies, and production companies. USC’s School of Cinematic Arts is especially well connected to the screen industries, while the Thornton School of Music and Annenberg programs add relevant pathways for music and entertainment media. Students can pursue internships during the academic year rather than relying only on summer opportunities.

UIUC has worthwhile options in media, cinema studies, music, performing arts, and student production, and it can be an excellent academic value depending on your costs. Its entertainment opportunities, however, are less embedded in a major production center, so students typically need to be more proactive about finding industry internships in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, or elsewhere. For a student whose priority is immediate, sustained access to entertainment employers, USC provides a materially stronger environment.
