Which has a stronger school spirit: Boston College or Ohio State?

Ohio State has the stronger, more visible school spirit overall. Its athletic culture is a central part of campus life, especially around Buckeye football, and game days draw students into traditions such as Skull Session, Script Ohio, singing “Carmen Ohio,” and organized Block O student sections. Ohio State’s large student body, major stadium atmosphere, and statewide alumni following make school identity hard to miss even outside athletics.

Student participation extends beyond attending games. Wearing scarlet and gray, following rivalry-week events, and treating football Saturdays as campus-wide occasions are common parts of the social rhythm. Basketball, hockey, and other sports also benefit from a recognizable Buckeye brand, although football is the main engine of that energy.

Boston College has real spirit, but it is more intimate and less all-consuming. BC students show up notably for Eagles football and for a particularly enthusiastic hockey culture, with games at Conte Forum often carrying a strong student presence. Traditions and events tend to feel connected to a smaller, residential Jesuit campus community rather than a huge university and statewide fan base.

For a student who wants athletics and traditions to regularly shape the weekend and broader campus atmosphere, Ohio State provides the more intense version of school spirit. BC offers a spirited environment too, especially for someone drawn to hockey and a close-knit campus, but it does not match Ohio State’s scale or the prominence of its game-day culture.
